btec was founded in 1998 as Mair & Roessler Kommunikationssysteme OEG with seat in Linz/Austria. At this time, Alexander Mair, specialized on software development and databases, and Michael Rößler, graduate engineer and expert on industry automation and mechatronics, could already look back at a long-standing experience in planning, design and implementation of customized solutions in many different application areas. Numerous projects have been realized in the context of one-man businesses since 1991.

In May 1999 the OEG was reorganized to btec kommunikationssysteme gmbh (Ltd.).
